Description
Seabird Photography Taster course
Workshop Overview
The world of bird photography is a fascinating past time, trying to get that perfect shot from either the pose to the correct angle while in flight. While doing bird photography you will start to notice birds a lot more, identify their call and see birds that you have not seen before.
You can spend a lot of time searching for the bird that you want to photograph and then even more time waiting for that one special shot, then you may find that you do not want to give up until you get it.
British seabirds come in a variety of sizes from the Puffin which is one of the smallest of the seabirds to the Northern Gannet which is the largest of the UK seabirds with a wing span of 2 meters.
While on the course not only will we cover the equipment side but you will also learn about the seabirds and their habitat.
What will be covered
Beginner photography can be quite daunting at first. All those buttons, dials and switches, where to begin how to attach the lens? do I just use the back screen or the viewfinder? this course is aimed at the complete beginner or those who wants to finally get of the AUTO MODE on the camera.
On the course we will touch on camera settings from Shutter speed to the best Aperture, also composition and technique such as camera shake and ISO . We will also talk about equipment if needs be. Upon completing this course you will be sent an email with course notes to refer back to.
This is a 4 hour course which is meant as an introduction to one of my main courses which last all day.
Location
The Seabird Photography Taster course will be held at RSPB Bempton Cliffs on the East Coast of Yorkshire. If it gets too busy at Bempton we may move to a different location which will be discussed at the time.
The time we will be meeting will be 08;00am and 13:00pm the course will run 4 hours
The Address for RSPB Bempton Cliffs is Cliff Ln, Bempton, Bridlington YO15 1JF
With only taking two people on this course it will leave plenty time for 1-2-1 with each student. Because everyone has different levels of ability so we can concentrate on your abilities and get you those pictures that you always wanted.
Equipment
You will need a camera that has either a powerful zoom or a camera with interchangeable lenses such as a bridge, mirrorless or a DSLR.
As for the lens required you will need a 300mm or 200-500mm or 150-600mm would be ideal as we will be some distance away from the birds. Bridge cameras or above work the best for this type of photography.
DISCLAIMER
With the nature of this photography, we can not guarantee that you will see all the birds listed. Also, the course will go ahead whatever the weather so any payment made is non-refundable unless extreme circumstances dictate otherwise and due to our opinion.
We will not be held responsible for any equipment damage, theft or personal injury while attending the walk participants do so at their own risk!
If you pay a deposit you will be required to pay the remaining balance 48 hours before the day of the course. If you fail to pay the full amount before the day of the course you will lose your deposit and will not be able to attend the course.

Great insights!
Steve’s introduction course was excellent for myself as a beginner with a decent camera but little knowledge of all its functions. Steve took me through various different settings and told me how to take the best photos of the Northern Gannet. I know have some excellent photos and a better knowledge of my camera. Thank you!

Half Day Course – Getting off Auto Settings
Completed a half day photography course with Steve, learning how to get off auto settings. We visited RSBB, Bempton Cliffs and had the opportunity to photograph lots of Gannets. Also had a lucky encounter with a large pod of dolphins. Steve showed me through all the relevant settings on my Nikon and was able to answer all my queries in depth. I will definitely be joining one of his longer courses next Spring, and in the meantime will be practicing what I learned. Thanks Steve!

Beginner’s photography course
Really helpful course. Steve was very knowledgeable and helped me with my camera settings etc. This course has helped me move on from only using automatic to having an understanding of the other settings available. Great morning and well worth the price.
